MMDCEs CONFIRMATION: President's Nominee, Ebenezer Monney Confirmed As DCE For Ekumfi District

As Article 243 (1) of Ghana's 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act 2016, (Act 936) stipulates, "there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting the meeting."

The Assembly members of the Ekumfi District Assembly have confirmed the President's nominee, Hon. Ebenezer Monney for the position of District Chief Executive.

The nominee had 27 of the total votes cast, a figure that represented 75% of the valid votes in an election conducted by the District Electoral Commission.

Nine (9) Assembly members out of the 36 total ballots cast representing 25% cent however voted against the nominee.

The newly elected DCE, Hon. Ebenezer Monney in his acceptance speech thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him to serve the people of the Ekumfi District.

He gave the assurance that, he will work hand in hand with the immediate past DCE Hon BB Grant in embarking on various projects initiated by the outgoing DCE for the betterment of the Ekumfi District.

“We have a collective duty, a duty which should see no barrier and devoid of partisanship to involve all stakeholders in our effort to serve the people of the District.

I therefore humbly call on all those who have a stake and capacity in the development of the District to eschew any personal and partisan interest and bring their competencies on board for services to improve the lives of our people,” he hinted.

He also called on other aspirants who applied for the DCE position to “be in readiness for us to team up with the ideas and efforts to build a healthy district”.

“I am poised to serve with a strong team to leave a legacy in the Ekumfi Assembly, a legacy which would be pursued to make all Assembly members feel beloved and motivated to contribute to the mission and vision of the Ekumfi assembly without discrimination,” he added.

Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, on his part, described the DCE as a proactive and determined person who could work to promote the President’s development agenda and urged the Assembly to support him for the success of the District as a whole.

She charged the people of Ekumfi Traditional Council, good and law abiding citizens of the district to support the nominee in his quest to realize his dreams of bringing development to the area.

“Nananom, there is an onus task ahead of us all. Today, we have a new DCE and our expectation is that Nananom gives him the freedom and liberty that would enable him to pursue his agenda as a District Chief Executive so that his dreams and objectives of bringing the arena of the government into reality can be fulfilled,” she added.


She further stated the development of the District was a shared responsibility hence the people must desist from destructive attitudes such as partisan politics and focus on an inclusive participation for the development of the area.
